I recently sat down with Michael Hammond from “This Week” with World Architecture News to talk about the significant role that landscape architecture plays in the urban environment.
In cities, our contribution to the public realm is essential to cities that people want to work, socialize, recreate and live in. Landscape is a strong system for public placemaking.
Prominent buildings have a name associated with it, e.g. Rockefeller Center, but the landscape is where the interaction happens – friends are met, coffee is drunk, conversations held, groups gather, protests are organized, life happens. Landscape is gaining recognition in Europe and the US as a driving force in urban design.
